Practical tips for how you can troubleshoot an iOS 4.2 iPad with a battery drain issue
Do You Have iPad iOS 4.2 Battery Drain?
Are you experiencing a faster battery drain after upgrading your iPad to iOS 4.2? There have been several reports of a much shorter battery once the iPad has been upgraded and it's causing quite a heated stir in the forums so here are some practical tips for how you can troubleshoot an iOS 4.2 iPad with a battery drain issue.
iOS 4.2 Battery Drain
For some odd reason, there have been reports of a shortened battery life after the upgrade to iOS4.2. It seems that people are seeing this happen quite frequently. Here are some ways you can deal with an iPad battery drain if you have already done the iOS upgrade.
Tip #1: Shut Down Apps Running In the Background
With multitasking, apps that you have previously used are always running in the background. Here is an article we wrote to help you shut down all those running apps.
Give this a try and see if it does not give a boost to that battery life. In most cases it will help because iOS 4.2 introduced multitasking which means the iPad works a little harder that it used to with all those apps running constantly.
Tip #2: Disable Push Notifications
If your iPad battery life seems shorter then try to disable push notifications. You can do this by tapping Settings > Notifications and then tapping the slider to OFF.
Tip #3 Shut OFF the iPad
Another tip you can try for a shorter iPad battery life is to shut it off completely instead of just putting it to sleep. This is obviously not ideal because one of the best parts about the iPad is the "instant on" aspect. But if you will not be using it for awhile then shutting it down assures a nice full laptop battery.
To Shut the iPad off just hold down the Home button and the On/Off button (at the top) and the same time and then slide the red slider once it appears. This will shut your iPad off completely.
Tip # 4 Do A Battery Recyle
Let the iPad battery run down completely until it shuts down, then do a FULL charge before using it. This has helped a few people with the shortened battery life issue. You don't need to do this every time you use it but it's a good idea to try it if you are currently seeing your battery life drain faster than normal.
There are some tips for helping you out with iPad iOS 4.2 battery drain. One of these may help or none at all but they are a good place to start if you are experiencing this. If the battery drain continues to be an issue then let's hope Apple addresses it in an upcoming update.
Have you experiences the iPad battery drain issue? What did you do to fix it?

Learning the iOS 4 SDK for JavaScript Programmers $27.99 Is it possible for JavaScript programmers to learn Apple's iOS 4 SDK and live to tell the tale? Technology guru Danny Goodman did, and with this book he leaves a well-marked trail for you to follow. An authority on JavaScript since its inception, Goodman understands the challenges you might face in creating native iOS apps with this SDK, and introduces Xcode, Objective-C, and Cocoa Touch in a context you'll readily understand.
