iPad speakers, in their stock form, are internal and deliver only mono sound. The sound comes from three small holes in the bottom area of the iPad.

Headphones that fit in your ear are are dangerous – in that they can damage your ears – unlike headphones which sit around your ears. But internal headphones do provide a great sound experience and allow the listener a very full and immersed experience. They do cancel out external noise, which may be highly desired if riding public transit like a train or bus. Some great brands to look for are Koss and Sony and RCA.

Stand-up speakers can be plugged into your iPad and give you a great option to be flexible in your media interactive sound systems. The external speakers which can be plugged into an iPad can be plugged into a computer, MP3 players or cell phone. This allows you to interchange the speakers to your various sound systems and save some money. Stand up speakers are becoming smaller and cheaper and are delivering great sound. Ultimately the freedom lies in the hand of iPad user. It is up to them to determine what quality of sound they are seeking and what price range they are willing to play in.
