Telstra goes to war with tablet giants

Telstra T-Touch Tab is the latest tablet PC developed by Telstra, the manufacturers of T-Box IPTV device and super-charged landline phone- the T-Hub, and the product is about to be marketed. Many other companies are in the fray to launch new products before Christmas and some of them have already joined the tablet war.

 

The latest studies reveal the popularity of iPad has surpassed all the records in sale of electronic goods and the recent findings of Bernstein Research detect that the record created by first generation of iPad and DVD player is an old wife's story now. The most recent authentic information shows that more than 3.3 million iPads are already sold by Apple.

 

 The unprecedented success of iPad has encouraged many giant electronic manufacturers to launch their new tablets. According to IDC, the sale of tablet computers is expected to reach an incredible 46 billion units whereas the sale of 2010 is 7.6 million units. Trevor Clarke, the Australian analyst of IDC, predicts a hike in sale this Christmas. However, he adds that some aspirants may wait for the release of new products by RIM, the producer of BlackBerry, or for the new variant of iPad, which are likely to be launched next year. Many more devices from other vendors are expected to come out within a few months.

 

Telstra has announced that the platform of T-Touch Tab will be Android operating system and it will support Adobe Flash Player as well. The seven-inch touch screen tablets will be launched next and it will be sold only through the Next G network of Telstra. As per the available pictures and the details furnished in the website, it will be similar to the SmaKit S7 of Huawei.

 

Another recently launched 5-inch Streak, operating on Android platform, by Dell and it is sold in Australia by the network of Optus stores for $649. The seven-inch Galaxy Tab of Samsung is expected to join the race in the next month. Even though the very concept of tablets was first suggested by Bill Gates, Microsoft was keeping themselves away from the contest. However, the recent statement of Microsoft CEO shows that their product also will be launched before Christmas.

 

Clarke also sees that the popular Android operating system used by most other companies will make them more acceptable among the tablet fans who are not fully happy with the proprietary system of Apple. He predicts that the iPad will be the leader for some more time irrespective of the tough competition from its rivals, and the pricing of Telstra-branded device will have significant role in its success, though he is extremely pleased with its charming design.
