HP LTO-2 Ultrium Tape Drives Are Ideal For High Density Storage

HP ultrium-448 tape drives are based on LTO-2 tape generation. Customers of desktop workstations, remote offices, public organizations, and small and medium businesses can count on the long term storage capability, low ownership cost and unbeatable performance offered by the HP LTO-2 tape technology.

HP ultrium-448 drive is the most economical solution that offers the best mix of robust data protection, outstanding reliability and low ownership cost.  It features SAS & SCSI interfaces.  HP LTO2 backup tape delivers native capacity of 200 GB.   LTO-2 technology offers 2:1 data compression, which doubles the storage capacity to 400 GB. Increased capacity of HP LTO-2 data tape will help to create huge volume backups on fewer tape cartridges, thus leading to increased return on investment and reduced IT costs.  LTO2 and LTO1 tapes both are read and write compatible with ultrium-448 HP drives.

HP ultrium-448 drive compress the information at 2:1, this providing a 100% increase in performance and recording capacity.  Fast speed ultrium-448 tape drives can record half a terabyte of data in an average time of 2.5 hours.  HP LTO-2 drive achieves such fast transfer speed with the help of new exclusive "dynamic data rate matching" technology, which assists the tape drive to efficiently adjust its tape speed to match the host's data throughput. Dynamic data rate features allows the drive to change its tape speed from 8 Mbps to 24 Mbps (native).

Multiple models for ultrium-448 drive are offered by HP including preconfigured 1U rack-mount drive, tabletop external drive and internal drive.  SAS based models of HP ultrium-488 tape drives provide direct connection to the SAS servers via SAS HBA (host bus adapter) or SAS controller. The HP LTO2 drive performs its operations at a compressed rate of 48 Mbps.
