Android Tablet Prices – Am I Getting a Good Deal?

Android tablet prices are going to be a hot button issue in 2011, as a whole group of new devices come out. Here is how you can make sure you get a good deal on that cool new gadget!

Decide Exactly What You Want

Right now, there are not a lot of choices, at least in the US, when it comes to Android tablets. However, that is changing quickly, and you will need to decide exactly what features you want before you make a move.

For example, for me, I bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and the major selling point for me was its size. I actually liked the fact that it was small. The screen was about 7 inches, meaning it was easier to carry around than something like an iPad.

However, in the near future, larger Android devices, such as the Motorola Xoom and the Vizio Via, will be coming out. The Via has an 8 inch screen while the Xoom has a 10.1 inch screen, giving you a lot more screen size options. Therefore, you will need to ask yourself whether portability or a big screen is more important for you.

Also, when it comes to Android tablet prices, some of the models running the latest version of Android, 3.0 (also known as Honeycomb), will probably cost you a bit more. I have not used 3.0 yet, but for me, Android 2.2, which is what many of the tablets are using, is just fine, and I am sure it will cost you less.

Data Plans

Data plans are also a part of the equation. This is where your cell phone provider comes in. You might find good Android tablet prices, but you could get gipped on the monthly data plan if you are not careful.

If you don't plan to travel regularly with your tablet, you could get one without a data plan. However, since portability is really the advantage of the devices, I am assuming you plan to get one. You can typically get a discount on the device by signing up for a data plan, but be careful not to sign up for more than you need.

For my Tab, I have a 2 gigabyte/month data plan through Sprint for $29.99/month, which works great for me. I just try to make big downloads when I am at home or on wifi.  I could get a 5 GB plan for $59.99, but you probably don't need that much data. Just be careful to monitor it!

So, when thinking about Android tablet prices, decide exactly want you want, and pay close attention to the data plan, and you should be able to find a great deal that works best for you!
