Many wheatgrass products (including organic and non-organic wheatgrass) are packaged in plastic bottles or bags. The problem here is that plastic slowly releases a host of chemicals (called "gas-off"), which finds their way into whatever foodstuff is being stored.

 

To make sure your organic wheatgrass remains unadulterated, you should always look for wheatgrass packaged in nitrogen-flushed glass containers.

 

The advantages here are:

 

• Glass is inert and doesn't produce any harmful "gas-off"
• The nitrogen gas (also inert) displaces any oxygen during the packing process – keeping your organic wheatgrass fresh and healthy – from the producer to you
• Glass can be easily re-cycled and re-used, and doesn't harm the eco-system if buried in the ground.
