As the internet has expanded and changed, increased network bandwidth and computer power has made it possible to share data and access storage locations even from remote locations. Teleconferencing and web-based presentations are easy, and can use data from multiple sources without having to have physical copies of the sources present. In addition, sensitive information is protected with encryption security, and dedicated lines are unnecessary. Files can be copied and used in multiple locations, and software programs can be run from multiple computers. An added bonus is that computers can be serviced without having to be in front of the problematic computer.

There are many computer services that provide secure, encrypted remote logins for users. Most Remote Desktop Software programs can be purchased and installed online, and most of these programs offer a free trial period. However, choosing the right software solution depends on several factors, including the operating system being used, the budget available, and the expertise of the IT staff installing the program. As a general rule, however, the higher the cost of the software, the more features you will find. However, this is not always the case so read reviews on the options you are considering and compare specifications. Weigh the cost of the initial installation against any future costs of licensing, or the possibility of needing to expand the remote access server capacity. The less expensive the program, the more it will probably cost to configure and maintain the system.
