HP Slate Tablet - Windows Against Apple iPad

The success that iPad has enjoyed among users has led rivals to copy the recipe of Apple, exactly like previously happened with the iPhone. This time, people at HP were the first who revealed inadvertently (or not) information about a touch tablet released by them - the Slate.

However, if we are to believe the information that has appeared in the international media, HP Slate is more than just a touch tablet. In fact, we're talking about a netbook touch tablet with lots of facilities, which mean that it can not compete directly with the iPad.

HP Slate is powered by an Intel Atom Z530 clocked at 1.6 GHz speed and will be helped by an amount of 1 GB of memory. The processor chosen is not among the best available for netbooks, but will be good enough for a tablet.

The display resolution is 1024x600 pixels, but the choice of HP is not very inspired. The resolution will create real problems when browsing the Internet, one of the main tasks of such a gadget, and playback of video content could also be problematic.

Data storage is on flash memory cards of 32 GB or 64 GB capacity which is enough for most of the potential users.

The chapter where Slate wins the fight against iPad is the connectivity. We talk about the existence of a memory slot, at least one USB port, a card slot and HDMI output. The internet connection is made through wireless, while Bluetooth port allows local file transfer. In addition, video conferencing is possible thanks to two webcams, one with VGA resolution and the other with 3 MP.

Slate's "netbook" title gain more power if you look at the operating system. Not surprisingly, there is Windows 7.

HP Slate's autonomy is around 5 hours, which is a double-edged value. Although seemingly reasonable, it should be noted that the iPad offers a range of approximately 10 hours. Although Slate's lower autonomy is justified by its superior technical facilities, it is an essential feature for the user of a tablet, so that HP could lose quite a lot of customers because of it.
